We are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and comfortable environment for all our patients.
Some examinations or procedures may be intimate or personal in nature. During these appointments, you have the right to request a chaperone to be present. A chaperone provides reassurance and support and helps to maintain dignity and professionalism throughout your consultation.
What is a chaperone?
A chaperone is a trained member of the practice staff who is present during an examination or procedure at your request, or when a clinician believes it is appropriate.
When is a chaperone offered?
- A chaperone will be offered for intimate examinations
- You may request a chaperone for any consultation or examination, even if it is not considered intimate
- Clinicians may also request a chaperone in certain circumstances
Your choice
- You may request a male or female chaperone, where possible
- If a suitable chaperone is not available, you may be offered the option to rebook your appointment
The clinician will respect your wishes wherever possible.
Confidentiality and dignity
All chaperones are trained to:
- Respect patient privacy and confidentiality
- Act professionally and appropriately at all times
- Support both the patient and the clinician during the consultation
The presence of a chaperone will be recorded in your medical notes.
If you have any questions or would like to request a chaperone, please speak to a member of the practice team when booking your appointment or before your consultation begins.
