Zero Tolerance

Our Commitment to a Safe Environment

We are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for our patients, staff, and visitors. Any form of threatening, abusive, or violent behaviour towards our staff or other patients is taken extremely seriously and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

This practice operates a Zero Tolerance Policy to protect the well being and safety of everyone who uses or works within our service.

Unacceptable Behaviour

Unacceptable behaviour includes, but is not limited to:

  • Verbal abuse, shouting, swearing, or offensive language
  • Threatening or intimidating behaviour
  • Physical violence or attempted violence
  • Harassment, discrimination, or hate‑related abuse
  • Damage to practice property
  • Abusive behaviour by telephone, in person, or via electronic communication

Such behaviour causes distress, impacts the delivery of care, and places staff and other patients at risk.

Action We May Take

If a patient behaves in an abusive or violent manner:

  • They will be asked to stop the behaviour and may receive a formal warning
  • If the behaviour continues or escalates, the practice may take further action
  • This may include immediate removal from the practice list where necessary, in line with NHS regulations
  • In cases of serious violence or threats, the police may be contacted and the incident reported

Any decision to remove a patient from the practice list will not be taken lightly and will follow appropriate NHS guidance, with consideration given to the safety of all involved.

Support and Understanding

We recognise that patients may sometimes feel distressed, anxious, or unwell. Staff will always aim to listen and support patients appropriately. However, abusive or violent behaviour is not an acceptable way to express concerns or frustrations, regardless of the circumstances.
